MAT 2010 - Start Preparing With Practise of Previous Years" Question Papers

The All India Management Aptitude Testing Service ( AIMATS), New Delhi organises Management Aptitude Test (MAT) quarterly in January, May, September and December every year. This test is conducted since the year 1988, for screening candidates for MBA and other associated programmes in business schools. MAT was recognised as a national level test by HRD Ministry in 2003. Any international or national B-Schools accept MAT score cards for admissions in the relevant programmes. The test serves to 160 MAT Colleges. For the entrance examination, application can be filled online and now the test can also be taken online.

On paper test of MAT papers, 2010 will be held at one time slot, which is between 1000 to 1230 hrs on February 7th, while the computer-based test can be attended from February 13th onwards in three time slots every day. A fixed number of seats are available at any given city for the test based on computer, so the candidates, who are left, will be permitted to appear for Paper Based Test on 7th February, 2010. However, even though the test is organised for some days, the candidates are not allowed to attempt the test more than one time.

The minimum qualification for MAT is Bachelors or an equivalent degree in any subject from a recognised university. Provisionally, a final-year student can also go for the test. Generally, a minimum percentage in graduation is variable for various Management Institutes / universities.

General Format for MAT

MAT sample papers comprises of five sections, which in turn, consists of multiple-choice objective type questions. Each section accounts for 40 marks, while the total is 200. Maximum duration of the examination is 150 minutes(2 and half hours). There is no negative marking stipulation. Your future(at least as far as clearing MAT goes) gets decided by the first four sections, as scores for General Awareness are only considered by very few institutes. The Five sections are as follows-

I) Mathematical Skills

II) Intelligence and Critical Reasoning

III) Data Analysis and Sufficiency

IV) Language Comprehension

V) Indian and Global Environment

Though, it may seem easy to you at first stance, but an intense practise of MAT papers from previous years is what is needed at the time, because they prepare you well in advance. Remember, MAT is a competitive exam, not a college level one. Hence, to find a seat in a reputed university or institute, you have to get ahead of a large number of students, all of whom are not only brilliant but also equally desperate to see through MAT.

Some of the important aspects, which are very much common to the MBA entrance examinations in India are:

Mathematical Skills: You can obtain 100% marks in this section, if you are good at it. a little effort can pay you more, because these simple arithmetic problems, can be solved easily. First, attempt the questions you are very well aware and then try to do the less known ones. Elimination method works in case you don’t know the answer very well.

Critical Reasoning and Intelligence – This is a test for reasoning skill. Precisely, it evaluates your logical thinking and analyses how efficient you are at critical problem handling.

Language Comprehension — To answer this section of MAT papers, first read the passage cautiously and afterwards answer accordingly. Here, the communication ability is gauged.

Data Sufficiency and Analysis — This MAT papers’ portion judges your analytical skills. It looks after how efficiently you analyse the given data for giving answers to the questions.

Internet is your best friend, as it gives you an opportunity to explore educational websites. You can also find related materials as it is equipped with free file sharing facility. With Forums and message boards, you can communicate with other students as well. Best of luck for MAT 2010!
