Stress is an emotional strain resulting from demanding circumstances which is unpreventable at work. Luckily, here are some tips on how to handle, minimize and cope with stress effectively:
1) Eat a healthy diet
Always be conscious of what you eat. Start your day right with a healthy breakfast, and keep your energy up and your mind clear with balanced, nutritious meals throughout the day.Well-nourished bodies are preferable to survive with stress
2) Exercise regularly
Regular exercise can have a profoundly positive impact in reducing and preventing the effects of stress. Try to make exercising or walking to work a daily habit.
3) Manage your time better
When you do many things at the same time and cannot give enough time or attention to any of them and you running behind, it’s hard to stay calm and focused. So therefore, planning ahead will be of a great benefits, because poor time management can cause a lot of stress majorly at work.
4) Take control of your environment
If someone causes you stress, limit the amount of time you spend with that person; if traffic’s got you tense, take a longer but less-traveled route; if going to the market is an unpleasant chore, do your grocery shopping online, etc.
5) Pare down your to-do list
Analyze your roles and daily tasks. If you’ve got too much on your plate, differentiate between the “shoulds” and the “musts”, and drop tasks that aren’t truly necessary to the bottom of the list.
6) Do not eat lunch while working
Take a break for lunch. Do not eat your lunch while you’re working. If you eat under pressure then most likely you will suffer from indigestion.
7) Avoid online distractions
Do not let social networks or your emails distract you. When this happens it is hard to concentrate again and go back to work. Try to check your email at specified intervals and not all the time.
8) Learn how to say “no”
Also, know your limits and stick to them. Whether in your personal or professional life, learn how to refuse added responsibilities. Taking more than what you can handle is a certain recipe for stress.
9) Sleep the stress away
Get at least seven hours of sound sleep every night. Lack of sleep reduces your energy and has an impact on your performance at work.
10) Express your feelings instead of bottling them up
If something or someone is bothering you, communicate your concerns in an open and respectful way. If you don’t voice your feelings, discontent will arise and the situation will likely remain the same.
11) Do what you love.
What are you passionate about? If you’re not sure, experiment with a variety of activities to find something that’s especially meaningful and fulfilling.
It’s so much easier to manage the level of your stress when the rest of your life is filled with activities you love. Even if your job is stress central, you can find one hobby or two that enrich your world.
12) Get some fresh air
Get a few minutes to get out of the air-conditioned workspace and breathe some fresh air.
13) Embrace mistakes—or at least don’t drown in perfectionism.
Another mindset that can increase stress is perfectionism. Trying to be mistake-free and essentially spending your days to be watchful is tiring and anxiety-provoking. Talk about putting pressure on yourself! And as we all know but tend to ignore: Perfectionism is impossible!
