Gender-Based Violence Expert - Lake Chad region

Duties and responsibilities

Selected experts will work closely with civil society organisations (CSOs) and networks in the Lake Chad region in Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria. The positions are hosted by UN agencies in the four project countries and will work in collaboration with other capacity development experts in the field, and the NORCAP Project Manager based in Oslo. In this role you get to work with a range of organisations across different geographic locations.

Successful candidates are able to:

• Provide training, mentoring and advise to the civil society organisations on mainstreaming gender and gender-based violence on the level of programming and organisational processes and policies


• Provide technical assistance and oversight to support the organisations in the formulation, design, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of gender-based violence interventions


• Train the organisation members in gender analysis, and project design sensitive to gender and gender-based violence concerns


• Support the development and application of organisational policies and procedures to promote gender equality and mitigate against risks for discrimination, abuse and harassment


• Work with and support monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) teams in developing context-specific indicators for gender & gender-based violence to measure gender and protection outcomes


• Support organisations to plan and implement advocacy activities for gender equality and eradication of gender-based violence


• Perform assigned tasks by the host UN agency as agreed between NORCAP and the said agency.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional humanitarian experience in the field of gender-based violence (equivalent to the UN P3 level or higher)


• Advanced degree with specialisation in areas such as social work, public health, gender, law/human rights, international relations or other related social science disciplines. A first-level university degree in combination with two years of additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree


• Technical experience and knowledge in capacity development, coaching, teaching, skills transfer


• Familiarity with the UN cluster system


• Good knowledge of the GBViE IASC guidelines


• Experience in program design and proposal development, including mainstreaming gender equality in the project cycle


• Demonstrated understanding of issues related to confidentiality, data safety and other ethical concerns related to the sharing on sensitive data between humanitarian agencies


• Direct experience in applying the survivor centred approach to survivors of gender-based violence


• Experience in providing direct support to gender-based violence survivors.English is the working language for NORCAP. In addition, proficiency in French is required for the Francophone project countries (Cameroon, Chad and Niger)
