How Not To Write a CV

Never talk money

One of the foremost things that you need to keep in mind while writing a resume is to avoid talking about money. Never mention the salary that you received in the previous place of work, your salary expectations from the job in question and anything about your financial status. When you apply for a job, the contribution that you can make to the company is the major consideration. Talks of salary are apt only after a person is selected for the job. The interview phase, and even then, the last phase of interview is the best time to talk about expected salies. Tomorrowmore, almost all companies post the salaries that they are ready to pay in their advertisements. You can choose those which are suitable for you. However, never talk about salary in the resume since it will turn out to be a big strike against you.

Never provide erroneous information

The other big mistake that people make while writing their resume is to provide wrong information, either intentional or unintentionally. It is not only ethical wrong to provide wrong information to prospective employers, but it can also land you in legal trouble if the error comes to light, even if it is after recruitment. Fraud is against the law and hence, being very careful and double check the resume before submitting. Several companies in the United Kingdom run background checks on the applicants and hence, the chances of erroneous information being found are high. Other than these major errors, make sure that there are no spelling mistakes and typos in the entire document. For best measures, have someone check the resume before you submit it.

Never mention more personal information than necessary

A resume needs to consist of your basic personal information such as name, age, gender, marital status, address, email and contact numbers. A lot of companies do not require age and marital status as well. So, you can find out what the requirements of the company are, if any, and ad them in the resume. Other than these basic requirements, there is no need of including more personal information such as personal websites, blogs, native place and details of spouse and children. Religion is another thing that should never be included in the resume. There is also no need to include your photographs in the resume since the way you appear has nothing to do with the way you work. Every detail in the resume has to be focused towards depicting your efficiency. Everything else is unnecessary.
